Tanu & Jay: Engaged!

Do I have a treat for you! I photographed the most amazing couple the other day. Tanu & Jay met through a mutual friend in lower Manhattan, so we headed to Battery Park and South Street Seaport to celebrate their upcoming wedding!

They agreed to sacrifice their leather shoes (how cute are Tanu's boots, by the way?) and get into the fountain for some photographs. Check out that little girl who was frightened when the fountain turned on! So sweet...

Congratulations Tanu & Jay!

Ariana & Michael: Engaged!

I totally love DUMBO. It is such a different world from the neighborhood I live in in Brooklyn. I love the cobblestone streets, the amazing view of Manhattan, and I have great memories of having picnics while watching movies in the park. When Ariana, Michael and I were trying to select a location for their engagement shoot, DUMBO was an obvious choice.

Ariana is Greek. So when Michael proposed, he had Ariana's sister make a sign that said "Will you marry me?" in Greek. Since the sign was in Greek, Ariana answered in Greek. The word for yes in Greek is "Ναι," which sounds a lot like no in English... If she hadn't had a big grin on her face, it sounds like Michael could have been very confused!

Ariana works at the Bronx Zoo, so we decided to incorporate some animals into our shoot. Isn't her engagement ring beautiful? It was Michael's grandmother's ring.

Congratulations Ariana & Michael!

New Blog, New Website!

Welcome to my updated blog under my new name, Sam & Gertie Photography. I named it after my grandparents, who were married in 1922. That's Sam and Gertie up in the blog header. Aren't they a handsome couple?

I'm about to launch my new website too...so stay tuned, because there are some serious surprises included!

The Sweetest Family

Remember this adorable girl?

And her adorable parents?

Well, here are some more images from our adorable shoot on Boom Island near downtown Minneapolis last month. This just may have been my favorite shoot of the summer so far. The light was gorgeous, the location was dreamy, and there was a mini picnic with berries and cupcakes!
